Topic: WR703N - cannot login - 401 ERROR

The content of this topic has been archived on 15 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I purchased a WR703N (Ver 1.6) from China.  When I enter 192.168.1.1 in IE8's or FireFox's address bar I get the

following message from IE8 and similar from FF:

401 N/A Server: Router Webserver Connection: close WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="TP-LINK Portable Wireless

N 3G Router WR703N" Content-Type: text/html

In addition there are 3 parapgrahs of Chinese instructions for which I found a translation.  I tried following the

instructions but to no avail.

From the research I've done it seems that Base64 encoded "admin:admin" (YWRtaW46YWRtaW4=) might need to be added

to the WR703N's Web GUI URL. However I'm not sure of the exact format.

Otherwise I'm not sure how to get to the Web GUI so I can install OpenWRT.

I'd appreciate any advice.

try another browser with clean cache / cookie

Hi nebbia88,

Thanks for getting back to me.
I think I did as you advised but I'm still getting a 401 error.

To be sure I correctly followed your advice this is what I did:
In IE8, Tools --> Delete Browsing History - unchecked "Preserve Favorites website data" and checked all of the other boxes before clicking the Delete button.

Try another browser, like chrome

Also, check any antivirus/spam etc settings

Thanks robthebrew,

I tweaked my antivirus/spam settings and the login screen now comes up in IE8.

Thanks once again.
