Topic: Easy install of OpenWrt on MikroTik's devices

The content of this topic has been archived on 22 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

When working on RB751U/G-2HnD I managed to "fix" MikroTik's Netinstall. The fix allows to install custom made npk's on the MikroTik's devices.

With the release of Attitude Adjustment 12.09-beta I created ar71xx compliant package which can be used to install newest OpenWrt release on all supported devices (ie. RB4xx, RB7xx). Package is built from: http://downloads.openwrt.org/attitude_a … 71xx/nand/

What to do:
1. Read this page: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall
Instead of Netinstall provided by MikroTik use the fixed one: http://openwrt.ayufan.eu/netinstall-5.14-fixed.exe

2. Select and install OpenWrt 12.09beta package: http://openwrt.ayufan.eu/openwrt-12.9beta1-mipsbe.npk

3. Wait for reboot and telnet 192.168.1.1. You may need to switch ethernet cable from port 1 into any other.

I hope that someone will find it useful.

Very nice. Care to share how you built the npk package? I am hoping that it can be integrated into the image generation.

P.S: Your wiki link is broken, one . at the end too much.

Thanks. Fixed.

I don't think that it is good idea. MikroTik have introduced encryption / signing mechanism to npk's. In order to have custom npk’s working you need patched MikroTik installation and netinstall. My solution is working, but how long? I don't know. With every new device netinstall has to be patched once again.

Hey, i tried it with RB711UA-2HnD.
It does not work...

The Leds are keeping on and nothing happens. No DHCP, nothing. Help sad

Is there no support for 711ua?

From what I know there's no support for RB711UA-2HnD. I don't have such device so I can't prepare patches.

Very bad sad I buyed this one for openwrt, i should have checked it before .... I thought its similar to the RB750 ones.

Tomorrow i will install a Serial-Port to have a look what the serial-output has to say.
I really want openwrt, routeros sucks ^^
I could cry... ^^
If someone can help, maybe you!, i will pay something for guys which are helping me out !

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=56541 <-- Is that true ?? No Serial Connection to RB711UA ?
Well how could we figure out whats going wrong.
ayufan can you help in some way?

Hi Guys,
Am really interested in getting my RB751 running this OpenWRT. All's installed fine with Netinstall and the SSH appears to connect OK to my re-flashed RB751, but I've tried login with no username and no password (OpenWRT starting default) and various other login combinations but am unable to get the right login.
Is there a default login for this? If so, could somebody please let me know what this login username/passwd combo might be??
Rob.

telnet?

Anyone can help me with installing openwrt-12.9rc1-mipsbe.npk on rb751g? After I press install in fixed netinstall and image is uploaded (probably) I never see status "Waiting reboot" so there is no Reboot button to press (like on this image: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/images/b/bd/NetinstallC5.png ). Same with original netinstall and original routeros image.

Thanks

Hi. What to do if netinstall is unable to see an RB711-5hn ? . I fallowed instructions from first post, and my mikro disapears from network. No IP, no telnet. Now should be openWRT on mikro - but there is no option to get webUI.

Using S301 button to enable boot from network not working. But when i use some sort of tftp dhcp serwer under windows - netinstall report some error connecting to station.

I have file gargoyle_1.6.1-ar71xx-generic-vmlinux.bin is there a option to boot from network, and install some openwrt or other system?

Answer : netinstall + dhcp serwer only

Is there a some software that can be run on rb711 other from routerOS?   I try openWRT, some linnux mips distribution but nothing is working. Please help.
