I'm having no luck connecting via telnet either unfortunately possibly because I'm not going to the IP address 192.168.0.254 as you would with the M3020. It comes back...

telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Tried turning all the firewalls off etc and flushing the iptables (which disconnected my internet and led me to believe I'd really screwed everything up) and after flushing the iptables it didn't say 'Connection refused' immediately but then did time out.

I'm starting to believe that putting the M3020 firmware on has blocked loads of things and the thing is now redundant for what I want to use it for but good for anything else.

Unless there's a hardcore way of hacking the device so I can put different firmware on. I've read about SSH but when I try that it comes up with this:

SSH: command not found

tplink firmware has only GUI available.

you now should behave like you have a mr3020, so this is your wiki page:

If I want to switch from OpenWRT to DD-WRT on my wr703n, is there any other way other than flashing back to stock as outlined in this thread? 

Seems funny that I was able to flash from DD-WRT to OpenWRT, but that it might not be the other way around.

That makes no sense. Whats's the problem of spending 3 minutes on flashing stock fw and then going to ddwrt? And that's the safest way to avoid bricking the router.

Well you don't need so. And now I remembered that there's a simple way of going to ddwrt.
First, do a reboot to have a clean system before upgrading.

cd /tmp

wget http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2014/06-23-2014-r24461/tplink_tl-wr703nv1/factory-to-ddwrt.bin

sysupgrade -n factory-to-ddwrt.bin

After the reboot you should be on ddwrt

I want to restore the original (Chinese) firmware on my TL-WR703N but I have a doubt:
the file to upload is the 100% original TL-WR703N Chinese firmware or it is a slightly modified version, as showed in this page (http://ofmodemsandmen.com/downloads.html) at "Factory firmware" section for the "Rooter" firmware (which is based on OpenWRT)?

I did it, the device rebooted but nothing, it is not working anymore. Now I have the blue led blinking slowly and I cannot connect with ethernet or wifi, I think it is bricked. I tried hard reset 30/30/30 but nothing.

I have used this file:
