Topic: Recommended serial cable

Hi all,

I've got a few WRT54's on the shelf.  Most of them are bricked, or otherwise, inaccessible.  I'd like to get a serial cable and fix them.

I really don't want to build a kit; I just want to plug something into my computer's USB port and plug the other end into the router.  I don't mind soldering pins on the router's motherboard.

Can someone recommend a device I can buy and a vendor to buy it from?

Thank you.

Mike.

I appreciate your response.

Based on what I read, I'll probably go with this:

Syba (SY-ADA15006) USB to Serial Adapter Prolific PL2303 Chipset

Before I go and open my router's chassis, is there any information on what wires to tie together on the board and the DB9?

Thank you!

Mike.

That is a subtlety that I completely missed!  Thank you!

So, I'll end up with 4 wires from my PC.  Are the pins on a WRT54 reasonably well labeled, or is there a doc somewhere?

Thanks again,

Mike.

The Nokia CA-42 cable is excellent.  Hack off the phone connector and you've got TX RX and GND with USB on the other end!
