Topic: sam's firmware collections for TP-Link WR703N

The content of this topic has been archived between 6 Feb 2018 and 1 May 2018. Unfortunately there are posts – most likely complete pages – missing.

On the end, which is the best possible solution to add an external sma connector? Should i cut PCB antenna, and then solder an wire for connector there, or is a better solution to unsolder C114 and solder a cable for connector there? :-)

Have anyone tested.. i'm planning to buy that router and make that mod..

If i see it's a good router, i'll buy more and mod for external antenna 'cause i think it's a good and off course CHEAP router.. :-)

Best regards,
Matej

I also bricked my v1.6 device when trying to install these firmwares.

Fortunately I had the serial interface soldered and I recovered my 703n easily.

It good be great if these firmwares were updated to solve this problem but it looks like s7mx1 has not posted anything here in many months.

It would be nice if some administrator could edit the first post in this thread to warn the people with v1.6 units about this. Not everyone has easy access to the serial port to unbrick it.

The best solution is to unsolder the purposed J1 shunt ans solder the cable core there, and cable shield to the large corresponding pad nearby.

Yup, and FuTz, if you do it, can you take pictures: they would be great in the WiKi.

Hi,

Since the firmwares in this topic are not working with 1.6 versions of the wr703n I compiled a firmware myself with nas, bittorrent and some other stuff.

I couldn't pack as many things as s7mx1 did but I think the result is quite good.
You can check it here:

images are great, link to external site is in chinese.  Can you advise where exactly you soldered. which terminal # as the translation from google on that link revealed next to nothing for me.

Thanks,

The wifi chip inside WR703N is quite good and it's only being let down by the wifi antenna printed on the PCB. You need to adjust the position of WR703N to get the best reception. If you have some old wifi router lying around you can rip the antenna and solder it on WR703N which should give a boot to the wifi performance. I have seen other people installed SMA  (detachable) antenna on WR703N.

Hi Sam, I don't suppose you could elaborate a little on the replacement antenna or post some links?
Cheers.

@willprice94

If you can read simplified Chinese you can visit this page http://www.right.com.cn/forum/thread-53691-1-6.html. Use google translation if needed. You will need to register to see the images on that link and for your convenience you can view them here

you can also do it from the top side. There is a jumper on the left near the USB. Unsolder that, solder the core to the north side and the shield to the large tinned blob nearby.
Hopefully this pic makes sense, despite all the other wiring and the hot glue:

Looks great!

Is the internal antenna still usable after removing that jumper or is it mandatory to use an external one after this modification?

Sorry for my misunderstanding.  I am not sure why you don't have ip address when at bridge mode.  Is your client network and the host network on the same subnet or different subnet?  I am not that experienced on bridge mode either.  However, as far as I know, Openwrt is not very friendly if both are on the same subnet.  If they are on different subnet, I don't see why you don't have a real ip address of the router in client mode.  Mine certainly did.
Maybe you should google more to to find out what others did.

Hey again,

i just tried to install the firmware again, and i have the same Problem: i can install the firmware, i can connect to the wifi, but i cannot reach the config web interface, because the (bridge) router has no ip adress. How can i solve that?!?!

Thanks,

Pcace

Let's hope my rubbish internet doesn't crash this time!
No, by unsoldering the jumper you disconnect the internal antenna. I don't know what happens if you just solder to north side without removing the jumper. Give it a go.

Hello everyone I have a problem with my tp-link wr703n: I downloaded from this site the bin file that is indicated on the first page of the discussion and I loaded into my modem: Well the result is that it does not work now in access it via ethernet: is there a way to get it back?
thanks

@s7mx1 I would like to create custom firmware based on your firmware for wr703n, can you please provide your config files used for creating these custom firmware images for wr703n.

UPDATE: found sources for wr703n image:
http://xbox-remote.googlecode.com/svn/t … m/openwrt/

will try to recompile everything, wish me luck wink

Hey valentt have you anything to report yet?

I also tried s7mx1's firmware on my v1.6 device unaware that it doesn't suit it.

Firstly I flashed it with sysupgrade and it didn't work and I thought it's because you're not supposed to flash "factory" image with sysupgrade. Then I reverted to TP link image and flashed again via web interface and it was the same.

any updates about SMA port -  where excatly to solder pins.

Copied existing config files and patches to github:
https://github.com/valentt/valent-openw … pulseaudio

Patches don't work on latest trunk but got firmware builth with updated .config file on wt703n V1.6 and it doesn't bricks it, which is good start smile

Now we need to fix patches and that is it... but I need help from people who know more about linux and openwrt...

A little bit Offtopic (but maybe interesting for those who wanted to build an DLNA audio sink)

Since I gave it up to make my W703N (V 1.6) working  with a Pulseaudio image:

I found in germany a product from Vodafone (build by ZTE in Shenzen) called "Media Plug".
It is exactly what I need. DLNA audio player. And the setup was very quick done.

http://www.amazon.de/Vodafone-MediaPlug … m_cmu_pg_t

It came out 2012 and now they are selling some remaining devices, so it seems, no one was interested.
(what I absolutely don't understand)

But, I cannot find any seller outside germany for this device, sorry!!

The discussion might have continued from here.
