After upload i leave the router reboot , the LED power light switchs to red from blue and the router stops /freezes .
Sometimes the lan connection drops and reconnects and i can't access the 192.168.1.1 http interface page. Is this bricked?
But i can reflash with vodafone firmware using the reset safety feature.
Does openwrt work well on this router?

image is built without LuCI,you need to install it yourself.

no ip address of gateway settings are acquired.
tried to telnet to 192.168.1.1
no response , no WiFi from router now.
I'm beginning to think its only supporting the Spanish hg553 not the Italian release router.

Is Jtag method of installation any better to use than installing by 192.168.1.1 flash upgrade?

I bought 2 HG553 at the same time, one get success install the OpenWRT, but one get the same as you.
The two routers should come from different batch...

I am looking for an English language firmware. Isn't the image_b21_es.bin a Spanish language firmware?

It's the same firmware, just different languages by different login name .

Try :
id: admin
pass: admin

some version using this passwd:  VF-EShg553

Yes, but I am looking for an English language firmware and not other language firmware. I wonder if it can be configured to switch to English language once flashed to the device.

There are many languages in the firmware. It shows with different login names.

For the image_b21_es.bin firmware file, is English the default language? If not, how would an English user navigate through its WebGUI to set/configure to English language?

Thank you.

Try the follow for English:
id: admin
pass: admin

some version using this passwd:  VF-EShg553

Sorry and I don't follow you. sad

Just to make sure you understand my asking such questions. I haven't gotten a unit of this device. However, I am planning to get either a unit of HG553 or HG556 and don't wanna get stuck with a non-English language firmware. My problem is I only speak/read/write in English.

Me too.

There's only one firmware, with different login-id to show different languages.
Have stated above  smile

Thank and that's good to know.

Hello.
I'm trying to install open wrt on a Huawei HG553.

I managed to reset the router to get it to show that support page.
There I selected the open wrt bin file and started the update process.
After that the router reset itself and now the LED is flashing red, just like it says on the wiki.

Now I'm supposed to telnet to 192.168.1.1 and set a root password, but that doesnt work because telnetting to 192.168.1.1 doesn't work anymore and I get an error. The same happens if I try to go to http://192.168.1.1.
It's as if the router isn't plugged into the computer (and it is, by ethernet).

I don't really know what to do.
Any suggestions?

I have found the GPL sources that Huawei provided to a guy, behind request: www.sbrk.co.uk/d/hg553.tar.bz2 (46MB).
There seems to be a lot of open source Broadcom drivers inside, I hope there could be also drivers for the modem.

I leave this here for developers, I hope they will read this.

Thank you.

I have 2 HG553, and gotten the same problem with you.

Some of the Rev of OpenWRT not work with it.  I tried some and finally got (12.09, r36088)  working.

You can try to fresh the original firmware, and try again.

Could you tell me how to do this?
Thanks.

cheche: I suppose ADSL is still not working on this device - is that so?

hi,
only want to share how to upload firmware

i just upgrade hg553 with openwrt-HW553-squashfs-cfe.bin
it's not work well....

only red light,can't ping,no wifi

solution:
- go to fail safe mode (more info about failsafe http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.failsafe )
- download original firmware 'image_b21_es.bin'
try google to find this image smile

1. press reset button for 30s while powering device
2. wait a few minute, 5min
3. press wifi button
4. change comp ip address 192.168.1.x -> x=2,3,4,etc
5. http://192.168.1.1
6. upload firmware

welcome back hg553 smile

I have a Huawei HG553 with vodafone firmware
EchoLife_HG553V100R001C06B070SP09

This firmware version does not allow OpenWrt OEM easy installation / OEM installation using the TFTP method
because failsafe boot and serial access has been disabled.

Bootloader must be downgraded using jtag connection

I collected instructions and cfe image from this page
https://translate.google.it/translate?s … ne-station

It seems that cfe flash gone wrong because router does not show any led and LAN port are not working
ping 192.168.1.1 does not work after failsafe turn on

Someone could help giving me better instructions on cfe flashing
I'm sorry if topic is not related to OpenWrt but I need help for HG553 de-bricking

Thank You

Hello

I made an open source driver to manage VOIP for this modem.
https://github.com/pgid69/bcm63xx-phone

If you try it, please let me know about bugs (ideally open a GibHub issue).
Thank you.

Great job, I'll add this info to the wiki, also for the HG556a. The HG556a also has a Legerity chip but a different model, a Le88266. This Le88266 on the HG556a is wired using the SPI slave select 2 (GPIO pinmux needs to be enabled for this additional slave select).

Sorry, posts 51 to 50 are missing from our archive.
