Topic: Ubnt Picostation 2/2hp

The content of this topic has been archived on 9 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

Im sure everyone knows the hardware is supported, However the flash mapping is different due to the 8 megs of flash that these boards have..So the current images that Openwrt builds do not work..

Kaloz or whoever can most likely  just add a new boardtype to trunk/tools/firmware-utils/src/mkfwimage.c

I added XS2-8 with the correct info to fw_layout_t fw_layout_data[]

Until this mod is made in upstream you can make a working image with the mkfwimage utility provided by ubnt....

contents of the lx2-8.txt file

kernel        0x01    0xA8030000    0x000D0000    0x80041000    0x80041000      openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma
rootfs        0x02    0xA8100000    0x006C0000    0x00000000    0x00000000    openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs

Make sure the openwrt-ather-vmlinux.lzma and openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs from the bin directory are near by..

then run /mkfwimage -v XS2.ar2316.openwrt.xxxxxxx -i lx2-8.txt -o test.bin

and then you should be able to tftp or web update, 10 minutes later you should be running openwrt...

@aliosa27, thanks for the info.

I did this and was able to build an image that the AirOS accepted (before the web app rejected the new firmware). However, after I uploaded the new firmware image I could not get to the 192.168.1.1 ip. The device seems unresponsive.

I tried the method above with the openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs and openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma files that I found here...

http://downloads.openwrt.org/kamikaze/8.09/atheros/

Any idea what I could have done wrong? Has anyone gotten this to work? For the version argument to the mkfwimage app I used "XS2.ar2316.openwrt.809". Not sure if that could be an issue... After I upload the firmware, should I be able to ping 192.168.1.1? Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks!

your image may be panicing.....

My first image i built works just fine....

try my first image @
http://etch.powercode.com/test.bin
the ip is 192.168.1.21

Looks like after r14899 it broke....so if you try to do your own builds stick with versions under....14899...stay tuned...

aliosa, Thanks again, your image worked for me! Unfortunately I need to build my own because I need certain modules enabled (mostly quality of service).

I got the source from prior to r14899 and built. Then ran it through mkfwimage, but I still can't get a response from 192.168.1.1 after I install the firmware. I've uploaded my bin file here...

http://cs.uic.edu/~tmerrifi/qos.bin

Any idea what I am doing wrong? Am I even using the right ip address? How can I debug this further? If you can't tell, I'm a total openwrt noob.

Thanks for your help!
Tim

try another build.....

hi, i tested that test.bin , but i am not able to see wireless interface. what can help here?

its not enabled b default in newer opewrt releases, you need to create a config for it

I managed to get it working. This may seem strange, but I think changing the default IP address away from 192.168.1.1 is what did it. Can't be entirely sure, but changing that (I set it to 192.168.1.32) is pretty much all I changed and now I'm able to build just fine.

Thanks for the help!
-Tim

is there a backup way to flash? tftp?

by the looks of things trunk is still broken.

Does anyone know the status of this? We have to compile our own builds to get OpenWRT on the Picostation series?
