Topic: OpenWRT Kamikaze on TP-link tl-wa501g?

The content of this topic has been archived between 31 Aug 2014 and 5 May 2018. Unfortunately there are posts – most likely complete pages – missing.

The wr340g has 2mb flash --so the openwrt system itself cannot fit let alone your other components such as a webserver and moreover it has only 8mb of ram so the standard linux kernel will not even boot ....

what you should go for is any router with 16mb of ram and 4mb of flash check the openwrt wiki

ps: there are a lot of tplink router that fits the exact same requirements search the openwrt wiki

what router is this ?

what is the switch?
is the flash rom detected ?
you have lost the board data config so wireless and ethernet will not work when the linux kernel load as it relies on the the mac address found in the board data

sorry for late reply ....

what is the cpu processor ?

for running linux if your processor is an atheros target (ar2317) you should you use the firmware over here:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03.1/atheros/

instructions to flash the firmware in Microredboot is here:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr542g?s[]=wr542

if you have question just ask..

Note: try the following commands in redboot
redboot>bdrestore
to restore the board data if present to the write block so linux can detect and fix wireless and lan macs

why did you flash the MicroRedboot for marvell switch on the wa5110
the wa5110 has a realtek switch and it is not supported in Microredboot
see here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Micro_Redboot

Anyway, It seems I f****d it...but oh well...it was a test device anyway. Luckly I still have the ruckus access point. xD

open up your router and locate the the 8pin spi flash rom
if it is a sst 25vf016b your out of luck and will have to change it to something supported

I think I have that chip. By the way, how can I return to VxWorks? would it be possible to use the WA500G firmware?

Thanks for your help.

Hello.
Can anyone help me to setup OpenWrt on WR340 (v2.21)?
As I understand, vxkiller made by xssa is for v5 hardware. Is it possible to obtain vxkiller for v.2.2?

Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,

I wonder, how can I upgrade VxKiller to original firmware because my router shows me a note always.
My router is for testing a TP-Link TL-WR542G v6.6
"Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name."
What should I do, or what am I doing wrong?

Have I any answer?

Very pleased to know about the church and it's activities...
Nice post.. Thanks.

Flashed today Vxkiller on my 340g and it killed it smile I don't have serial adapter with me, but i have it at home and i will connect it to see what is happening. But when i opened router, i found that it has intel 016s33b8 flash memory, router version is 1.3. Can i somehow restore it to original firmware or there is no help for this router without changing flash?
Thanks in advance and sorry for reopening thread.

Hello im new here but i am having trouble finding a custom firmware for my TL-WR340G and i cant seem to find a download to it is there one still if so please give me a link

Hi guys!
I want to swap flash on my tl-wr340gd to 64MBit W25Q64FVSSIG.
In this case I will have empty flash. What do I need to burn to the empty flash?

First of all you need to flash Redboot to first 64kB of your new 64Mbit chip and flash boardconfig from last 128 kB from old chip to last 128 kB of your new chip. Then solder your new chip onto bard and cross your fingers looking to serial console on booting. Meaning RedBoot will recognise your chip properly.
