Topic: La Fonera v1.1.1r2 from dd-WRT to OpenWRT

The content of this topic has been archived on 22 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

I have followed the instructions at www.hackafon.com on how to use Redboot to install a version of dd-wrt onto a La Fonera 2201 and it's working great.

However, I really want a Kamikaze build of OpenWRT on there instead. It looks as though I created a partition called linux and bootscript then runs the image flashed onto that partition (I think!!) so my questions are

1. Can I now just mtd an OpenWRT image into the linux partition and expect it to work?

2. If so, is there a pre-built Kamaikaze image that I can d/l and flash and if so where is it?

Thanks for any advice

Connect via serial console to RedBoot to flash OpenWrt and you don't need all the other hacks...

I really didn't want to play around with the hardware - the eventual solution needs to be usable by any Fonera user - only 0.000001% of the rest of humanity know how to use a serial console smile

Is there a precompiled version of Kamikaze that will install on a Fonera or do I have to compile one?

I thought you can just flash an OpenWRT firmware through a RedBoot prompt via telnet with no serial-console cable.

Please read the README.

That url doesn't seem to exist - unless their site is down?

Edit: it's http://download.berlin.freifunk.net/sven-ola/area51/

You can certainly upload and flash firmware from the redboot prompt on the Fonera - however the only distro that I have found in a ready package form was dd-wrt - there doesn't appear to be a Kamikaze build that is availble unless you compile it yourself and I have no skills in that area.

If someone has an openWRT build for the Fon available, please post it.

Hi,

Try gargoyle firmware for classic fonera (2100/2200) and fonera+ ( FON2201: download fonplus image files on atheros section):  www.gargoyle-router.com
Other devices supported....
Based on kamikaze 7.09 but GUI interface fully re-written by the author Ebishop (not webif/X-WRT), really nice smile
AP-client working here.
Please take a look on screenshots and download sections before installing.

Use ap51-flash utility for flashing (use link from CyrusFF above), it's OK for all fonera models.
