Topic: Strange characters from serial port

The content of this topic has been archived on 26 Apr 2018. There are no obvious gaps in this topic, but there may still be some posts missing at the end.

When I first hooked up the 5v TTL to rs232 adapter to my wrt160n the info coming back to me looked normal.
now after a few times it has changed and looks slightly corrupted.

could the 5v be killing the 3.3v serial port? I really don't think I changed any settings since the first time. I am using 115200,8,n,1 and no flow control in Hyper Terminal on windows 2000.

Sorry for the false alarm. The TTL to serial adapter I am using is 5v so I am powering it separately with a 5v power adapter. it was not plugged in and thus not powering the TTL adapter properly when I made that last post. even though it was not powered it still gave feedback from the router. wink

The discussion might have continued from here.
