The patches are against the 2.6, not the 2.4 kernel.

If you build the 2.6 kernel, it will probably work.

usb2? is this just the controller or is there a hub  and/or header on the board?

The G125 has just the controller. There's no header. If the 2 usb lines are accessible, I haven't found them.

I have  an Asus WL520gu that also uses the 5354. It does have an external usb connector. The usb core claims to do both ohci & ehci. So far, with the help of some patches from linux-mips, I've got the ohci to register, but it times out trying to get descriptors from my disk drive. I reported the problem as ticket 2645 and posted the patches.
