Hi

i'm a new user from Italy,

i have a cheap Mediacom 7WAAPRA54 router, based on EDATA DWR-Ti14

the inside chips are:

CPU: TI AR7 TNETD7200ZDW
Memory: Samsung k4s281632i-uc60 128M bit (16 MB) 166Mhz@CL=3
Flash: Macronix MX29LV320C BTC-70g 32Mb (4 MB)  Speed(ns):70/90
Switch : Marvell 88E6060-rcj1

What distro do you suggest me?

P.S. I've also some hi-resolution pics if necessary i can post it.

Thanks

Giorgio

Sorry,
I mean what release do you suggest me according to my hardware: white russian, kamikaze (7.06 or 7.07)?

Thanks

G.

The right distro is Kamikaze, checkout last trunk and select AR7 as cpu (AR7 target is only in trunk avilable). Try then following instructions on http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Har … /DSL-G604T (my DSL-G664T has cpu TNETD7300, so chances are good on this side)

First of all you should familiarize with bootloaders, serial consoles, etc :-) No, seriously, you could brick your router!
Find out what kind of bootloader your router uses. Telnet to 192.168.1.1 , if you get a prompt try 'ifconfig' or 'nvram show' to find out what is the bottloader's address (mine is 5.8.8.8, ADAM2 bootloader). Then follow istructions on the wiki.

If you're an hardware geek, find out if and where the pins of serial console are. Getting it to work is a great help, as you see the whole booting process even thou kernel then panics. Probably you need a TTL-RS232 adapter, as such routers have 3.3V serial lines. And yes, hi res pics are welcome, please post :-)

Sure it is possible to flash original firmware back, but i have no idea how; so you're warned!! If you decide anyway to give it a try, please report results then.

Buon divertimento :-)

Andrea

Ciao rAndy,

thanks for answer i'll study the wiki and follow your suggestion.

Note: on the Left bottom corner you can see the 3.3v serial pins.

And that should be the serial port!! Do you see over the pins? GND == RD == TD == +3.3VD
Nice router, you don't even need to play around with a tester *gg* . I suggest anyway to get a TTL-RS232 adapter.

The cheapest i found is http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/Evalua … 2R-3V3.htm .I bought one (ca 20 EUR in Switzerland), very compact, works like a charm. Distributed in Italy by http://www.comprel.it . This cable is powered with USB voltage, you don't have to connect the pin with 3.3V. Don't connect TX from cable with TX pin; what is sent on one side is received to the other side, so TX with RX :-)

yes: DGMD-RD-TD- +3.3VD

with a female-usb version of this cable is possible to create an usb port directly on the router... GREAT! :-)

Grazie 1000

No, it wouldn't work: the router lacks a usb host controller. If you need a router with usb port look at http://wiki.openwrt.org/TableOfHardware (i got for example an Asus wl500gp, very fine).

Ok,
no i don't need a new router, 2 are enough :-)

(i've also a 3com, nice but really hot!)

The discussion might have continued from here.
