Zyxel NWA55AXE installation fails every time

I've installed OpenWrt on several devices recently with no problems.

However, with my NWA55AXE, installation always fails and reverts to stock firmware. Of course, I know about the A/B partition issue, so I've tried flashing stock firmware first, followed by OpenWrt, but it still fails. I have 2 of these devices and it's the same with both. My stock firmware settings are not lost when I flash a new version.

My only clue as to why this might be is that the installation instructions vaguely say

Set your IP to 192.168.1.20
Open Web UI at 192.168.1.2

but I haven't done this, because why? Is it necessary? If so, what should have IP 192.168.1.20? Also, if I set the NWA55AXE's IP to 192.168.1.2, this will cause problems as this address is already in use on my network.

Advice would be hugely appreciated!

I finally managed to install OpenWRT on NWA55AXE using Zyxel's ZON utility. The instructions on the NWA55AXE page should be updated as the procedure given there did not work for me, despite multiple attempts.

ok, will add "didn't work for swimmedia" to the wiki.

Well, more helpful might be to say that the ZON utility has to be used...

Recently I've installed openwrt on Zyxel NWA50ax and WSM20 with no problems. It's not just me

@swimmedia I'm also getting the same problem. Firmware update runs fine but after reboot the device is back on stock firmware instead of OpenWRT. I also tried from ZON without success. Did you do anything in particular?
