Running a test on the device is showing:

CPU:   0% usr  12% sys   0% nic  52% idle   0% io   0% irq  34% sirq

Running from outside:

CPU:   0% usr   7% sys   0% nic  31% idle   0% io   0% irq  60% sirq

So maybe? It's certainly higher.

I see that sirq is much higher in the latter case.

I’m also still wondering how the IP passthrough is implemented by Zyxel and whether that really has no bearing. I came across these posts here:

Afaik no it is not supported. I had enough bad experiences with using OpenWrt to run a modem card anyway so I would personally not recommend to use OpenWrt at all if you must run a "dumb" modem card. I bought Mikrotik Chateau LTE12 to run my LTE connection for example. It has IP passthrough like everyone else. IP passthrough in OpenWrt

Teltonika firmware is based on openwrt. They provide means to setup IP passthrough, so that openwrt acts as a dumb modem and passes its WAN IP to the LAN device. Here is a video about it. Jump to 3:03 for the interesting modes Passthrough and Bridge. Anybody knows how can it can be done using stock firmware?

Do we know how the Zyxel OEM firmware sets up the bridge mode?
