I wanted to ask what the status of ZTE MF281 support is.
Once again I have problems with the OEM firmware and would very much like to switch to OpenWRT, but since I can't find the ZTE firmware anywhere, a change would no longer be possible.
Could you therefore give me the current status of the OpenWRT firmware for this model? Is everything supported, especially the LTE model would be important to me.

Yes, I searched the forum and found older posts where bugs were described and also an installation guide. However, I still don't know if the hardware (ZTE MF281) is fully supported. I don't want to just try it out as I have no way to the oem firmware as we wrote.
The non working stuff is listed in the git commit you found, then there might be bugs.
You can always back up the OEM firmware before switching to Openwrt.
Do you have any instructions for backing up the OEM firmware - I have never done this before.
Something like https://openwrt.org/toh/zte/mf286r#method_2_-_using_stock_firmware, but the flash lay out might be different.
I have now tried to backup the OEM firmware for 1.5 weeks, but have failed.
Can't help you with "it doesn't work"....
