YouHua WR1200JS Connect failed on port 23

hi, i'm trying to install openwrt to my YouHua WR1200JS router

this is from my routers page on how to flash the firmware:

Installation via telnet

  1. Press reset key 5 sec and restore the factory default
  2. Login webUI and change username to root and set a new password
  3. Visit http://192.168.2.254/adm/telnetd.shtml and turn on the telnet service
  4. Copy the ...initramfs-kernel.bin to a USB drive
  5. Plug the USB drive to the router, telnet to the router and login by root
  6. cd /media/sda1 and check the initramfs file is there
  7. exec command:
    mtd_write write openwrt-ramips-mt7621-youhua_wr1200js-initramfs-kernel.bin Kernel
  8. reboot and visit 192.168.1.1

i open cmd and run as admin and then run the ping command and get this positive result:

C:\Users\user1>ping 192.168.9.1

i am using windows 10 pro and have telnet enabled. I then try to telnet into my router but i get this response

C:\Users\user1>telnet 192.168.9.1
Connecting To 192.168.9.1...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed

when i login to the router via the webgui i think it has asuswrt installed- see attached pics

can anyone help/guide me to get this installed

that doesn't look like the stock FW, openwrt installation instruction assumes device is using stock fw.

i thought we could install openwrt over any FW. do you know of a solution to install openwrt over this FW

You have to return to OEM factory firmware.
At least here it claims it is clone of ASUS device:

YMMV, find serial adapter first.

What do you mean by find serial adapter first???

Also could it be based on asus ac1200 as thats the closest one i can find that looks like it on asus website but asus one has 4 antennas whereas mine only has 2

OpenWRT installs over factory firmware, not hacked asus firmware you are running.

i guess i'll just leave it as is as getting a serial adapter and then learning how to use that to flash oem firmware is a bit too much for me lol.

anyway thanks for your help and input

Not all is lost, I see the firmwares list has them in non-english, if you know any of those you might be able to find stable procedure from hacked asus to OEM fw. From there OpenWRT.

only the asus-rt link seems available and it is an older firmware than what i already have. all the others just show a spinning blue circle type thing

That was only recoverable info in English, there should be some guidance to switch between different firmwares in other language.
ASUS is good, they update software like forever.
