### Describe the bug The 5GHz Wi-Fi on Xiaomi Mi Router 3G randomly stops worki…ng after some time. ### OpenWrt version r28427-6df0e3d02a ### OpenWrt release 24.10.0 ### OpenWrt target/subtarget ramips/mt7621 ### Device Xiaomi Mi Router 3G ### Image kind Official downloaded image ### Steps to reproduce 1. Configure the router to use 5GHz Wi-Fi as a WAN (wwan) connection by connecting to an upstream AP. 2. Use the router as a 5GHz Wi-Fi AP for downstream clients simultaneously. 3. After a period of normal operation (which varies), the 5GHz Wi-Fi stops working: •The router loses the WAN connection completely. •Downstream clients cannot connect to the router via 5GHz Wi-Fi. 4. Once the issue occurs, restarting the Wi-Fi (wifi restart) does not restore connectivity, and a full router reboot is required. ### Actual behaviour When using 5GHz Wi-Fi as wwan, the WAN connection randomly drops after some time. 5GHz Wi-Fi clients get disconnected and cannot reconnect. Log entries indicate “No default route present” and excessive missing ACKs, suggesting a failure in 5GHz operation. Affected clients receive DHCP NAK or inactivity disconnection messages. The issue is intermittent but persistent across different configurations. ### Expected behaviour 5GHz Wi-Fi should remain stable for both WAN and LAN usage. Clients should not be disconnected unexpectedly. ### Additional info The issue appears to be specific to 5GHz Wi-Fi on the Xiaomi Mi Router 3G, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi remains unaffected. Similar symptoms are observed when using a wired WAN connection, where 5GHz Wi-Fi clients fail to connect to the router. The issue occurs with both official OpenWrt images and self-built images from the same release branch. ### Diffconfig ```text ``` ### Terms - [x] I am reporting an issue for OpenWrt, not an unsupported fork.

The bulk of key addition seems like 11R in action. Try to disable that first, willing clients are to roam anyway.

Disable hw offload and wait at least 2x time to crash.
5GHz can auto-select channel for best results (no impact on crash, except maybe more transfer faster crash)

You have to wait a minute to 10 to detect (no) radar in all channel options

The wifi got disabled

Then i changed the region to driver default and then it worked

Make sure you set country code once per power on (as in electricity supply, not reboot)

Country code restrictions accumulate as you are changing it. Power on the router either with wifis disabled or with correct CC set.

I have an issue with 5GHz too. I replaced the Xiaomi 3G with new Hardware but decided to keep it as a backup. So I upgraded from OpenWrt 22 (over 23) to 24.10.2.
Because I saw this post, I tested the 5GHz today. The result:
I connected 2 times to the 5GHz AP and the Xiaomi crashed 2 times. First time directly when connecting, the second time after a minute or two.
With crash I mean, that the Xiaomi does not have any Wifi or Ethernet connection at all and the LED (usually blue) goes off.

One interesting information: one of the reasons to replace it, was that I had such a crash last week, when it was still on OpenWrt 22.
So it might be possible, that OpenWrt 24 just causes to problem to occur much more often, but it was already present on 22.

Btw, i reinstalled the latest openwrt, not format.

I came across the error of it unable to select correct channel and showing me channel 0 when I set it to auto select channel

But then I manually set the channel and power and everything is working well so far.

Also made sure to set every wifi setting before i enabled it

Maybe it will crash soon. Fingers crossed.

I downgraded to 23.05.5 and I still got the crashes. But good news, I found the reason for them: the power supply. It is (due to bad design and age) not providing the needed current, that might slightly higher when using 5 GHz compared to 2.4 and causing the hardware to crash. This also explains that the problem occurs with OpenWrt 22, 23 and 24.

Btw: what's the default signal strength of this router? 23dbm for wifi 5 and 26 for 2.4?

"driver default". The legal limit for 2.4 GHz is 0.1W; I don't know where your number is coming from.
