B.T.W: I had this odd behauviour too where it started to boot once and the other time not. I expected it to be a classical capacitor problem, but maybe not.
I think I got mine working, at least for now. There are voltage regulators under small shields soldered to PCB. After reflowing components with soldering iron/hotair it started to turn on every time.
UPDATE:
After putting PCB in case its dead. Taking PCB out makes it alive again. I also noticed that addingnscews bend PCB a bit. So fixing don't have anything to do with VRMs. Applying heat close to CPU did the trick. So most likely there is cold/broken solder joint under CPU. I did quick dirty reflow of CPU for further testing
UPDATE 2:
Looks like reflow fixed it. Its in enclosure now, starting every time, everything is working. Did firmware update and connected to 5G network
Can you show a more precise place where you did heat it and did you use any substance or just heat? I think too it’s a voltage trouble, because I measured and compared earlier one booting device to an other non-booting one and there was voltage differencies at 1.8V.
What version was it? What version is it now?
This CB0401 tells us this:
“Machine model: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. IPQ5018/AP-MP03.6-C1”
I used hot air gun 360 degrees 70% airflow, added some flux on edges of CPU and heated till solder on components close to CPU melted. Then I did heat on the back side of PCB, where CPU is.
So you need a hot air gun, or take it to repair shop, so that they reflow CPU for you.
On my router all voltages were okay. There are many voltage rails on this device 5.0V 3.8v 3.3v 2.2 2.0 1.8 1.35 1.2
I only did automatic firmware upgrade from administrator panel from 3.0.92(I think) -> 3.0.116
Thanks for the tip about reflowing, with the help from my SMD rework station I was able to keep the thing running, otherwise it crashes and bootloops as it is starting the wifi driver. I was able to observe that after setting uart_en=1 and now we are able to get to u-boot prompt finally too.
TL;DR:
- These things suffer from bad solder joints causing bootlooping or complete 'blackout'
- uart_en=0 kills all UART output after SBL (as opposed to many other Xiaomi models where it just disables input)
- Secure Boot appears to be enabled in U-Boot, If someone has guidance how to work with it i'm all ears

Thats a whole 1GB of RAM, isn't it
Try rooting your device using Xmir-patcher. If that doesn't work on firmware 116, you can try downgrading to an earlier firmware.
Secure boot was enabled on the Linksys MX6200 as well but I’ve created a uboot script stored in a few uboot variables to circumvent it. It allows dual booting signed and non-signed images by checking the MBN header. See the commit message in my PR for more details:
Thanks. I’m only afraid it may loose some of those tiny components.
It makes sense the trouble is with those bigger components like SoC. Bending the mainboard will give them more force than to those small pieces.
Well that's what I wrote previously, problem was solder joints under SoC, reflow made it work again.
Instead of poking SoC to see if it moves, I was just looking if solder on components nearby melted, then heated 10-20sec more to be sure.
I did try by simply compressing the Soc while it was powered, but it did not help.
Of course it’s not a complete solution. I was only trying to find out if the trouble is there in my device too. But compressing SoC or any other bigger component did not help at all.
There seems to be a lot of these devices in a bootloop where it reboots while driving WiFi driver and device up. It sounds much like there is enough power to boot SoC, but booting the rest of it is too much. There has to be something wrong about power sourcing and it might be just anything.
Positioning is good, you dont touch SoC. Put some decent flux around edges of chip. Use big nozzle on hot air gun, so you won't make small components fly away and heat it from top till solder melts. Dont touch, dont compress IC, applying heat should be enough. Good if you watch some YouTube reflow tutorials and videos.
How much can it take heat without burning?
I have unit rooted with Serial/U-boot access and gathered some information:
