My Xbox Series X is taking 30secs and up to a few minutes to connect to wifi. I added an SSID to limit the Xbox to a connection with the gateway router and copied settings from the previously working SSID that uses 802.11r to help with phone tablet roaming between the gateway router and two others. Any suggestions on troubleshooting and settings I can look into?

I see a couple of these in the kernel log and don’t know how to know if they are associated:

[45079.517604] ath10k_ahb a000000.wifi: wmi: fixing invalid VHT TX rate code 0xff

I had a similar issue with a china tablet.

Some devices seem to have bad Wifi software / drivers which don’t recognize the channel of your Wifi. My tablet for example had issues connecting to everything over channel 11. So I set it to channel 11 and since then it connects within seconds.

Try to change the channel of your AP and set it as fixed so it doesn’t jump around.

It would also help us more if you could provide more info on your setup e.g Router hardware and openwrt version

Linksys MR8300 (Dallas)

OpenWrt 22.03.7

It’s using one of two 5GHz radios set to 36 and 153, chosen years ago for compatibility with various Android and Apple devices. I have plans to update to 25.12, but that’s going to be a task for another. It’s been humming along on 22 for so long and of course nothing changed that I know about. The Xbox (One Series X) probably has had an update recently, but it can’t really be configured, so I’m left tuning the router…

I have disabled each of the 5GHz radios one at a time to force a connection to the other radio with no change. Today it refused to connect for 10min and I found this in the log that may be related.

I feel like the Xbox and router are fighting over this association and they just agree to disagree and ignore each other.
