WRT3200acm back to OEM firmware

I have a wrt3200acm with OpenWrt on both partitions.
I would like OEM f/w on one partition.
I tried 3 flash methods :

  1. Flash from GUI,
  2. Transfer to tmp and sysupgrade.
  3. Tftp flash with serial output.

I tried 3 different OEM f/w builds.

OEM f/w write is ok but boot sequence hangs at "Starting smbd ..."
Flashing OpenWrt works with all 3 methods, from either partition.

Here's the full boot sequence.....

Starting smbd ...

Have you consulted the wiki?

@RuralRoots
Yes of course. I've been on this for many hours.

I’m a little confused. TMK, Linksys only provides a single firmware version for WRT3200ACM (FW_WRT3200ACM_1.0.8.199531_prod.img).

When you say the OEM writes to flash ok, but on boot it fails starting smbd. Do you currently use smbd in your OpenWrt fw? Cause I’m pretty sure Linksys fw won’t reference smbd.

It seems in the log more like it is failing on some br0 config line.

And that actually seems like it is loading old openwrt config files from some faulty memory position?.

Did both partitions work before with OpenWrt?

If I remember right this device have a forum post a while back about a possible corrupt memory allocation table/boot loader that result in this type of symptoms.

I had a similar problem where openwrt firmware installs where totaly scrambled but almost worked. It actually got fixed by installing original fw and reinstall openwrt.

I think there was some way in that old forum tread to reset the memory table…

There are at least 4 builds available on the internet.
The latest from is available from the Linksys site.

Yes I was using smb on the OpenWrt firmware.

Yes I saw that but I think it was due to fact that the WAN cable was disconnected from the main router.
I'll flash again with the WAN connected.

Yes I noticed that whilst trolling, I'll try to find it again.

I can pretty much guarantee the wan cable has nothing to do with corrupted result of the flashing of firmware.

The “br0” came to openwrt with dsa. Linksys obviously doesn’t even recognize the word.

The only fw you should be using for this is from the Official Linksys fw.
cd /tmp

wget https://downloads.linksys.com/support/assets/firmware/FW_WRT3200ACM_1.0.8.199531_prod.img --no-check-certificate

cd /tmp && sysupgrade -F -n -v FW_WRT3200ACM_1.0.8.199531_prod.img

Yes I tried that one first.
I'll try again and post the result.

Thanks.....

I flashed from partition 2 (Owrt) using wget and sysupgrade.

QoS auto-prioritize [info]: No networkID; skipping auto-priority update

Grasping at straws now, but wondering if reseting the boot loader environment might help.

  1. I think the bootloader must be OK as it loads OpenWrt fine. Am I right to assume this ?
  2. The links to kwboot.tar ans kwboot-patched.tar are broken, and google isn't much help.

Situation now is that no f/w other than OpenWrt is accepted.
I've tried a few, dd-wrt, gargoyle, openmptcprouter......

I do not think the bootloader is corrupt. It appears to be OK.

I was referring to a Reset of the bootloader environment, and alternately, a Restore.

All the links can accessed from the wiki link above.

So you can still load and run OpenWrt to both partitions, but you cannot load/run Linksys, and the above others?
