I already run my house from a hacked telstra smart 3 modem.
What is the benifet of running WRT from a container.
Am I able to do away with the modem and just run the WRT container?

It is not official OpenWRT, lets check if hardware is viable to support.

You cannot run OpenWRT in a container, you need a bare metal hardware or a full virtual machine.

Since a modem usually converts some other technologies to Ethernet - no.

put the modem in bridge mode,set up a proper openwrt device behind it ?
