Wpad-xxx flavours?

Is there any practical difference in the different flavours of wpad-**?
Now when there is 3 to choose from.
wpad-openssl, wpad-wolfssl and wpad-mbedtls...

is this just a matter of taste or some practical functional difference?

wpad built against different ssl/ tls providers. This effectively has two orthogonal reasons, making it possible to standardize on one ssl lib for 'everything' (and saving space compared to installing two competing ones to service the dependencies of different packages) and also slightly different feature sets (roughly said, openssl > wolfssl > mbedtls), e.g. mbedtls lacks h/w accelerated crypto extensions and less cipher coverage fir WPA Enterprise.

But for the details, you'd really have to dive deep into the details.
