I simply took a random firmware with the same CPU from:

I am pretty sure I have enough rest to think better than 20 hours ago.

Since the RP-N53 boots, I'm am going to use the builder tool on v19.07.3 Less errors with slower maintained packages.

So we will have a builder@ap-builder made N53 image. Then we need to verify it boots and is limited to just the 2.4 radio.

Then I/you/we can modify that template and throw all of the the MT76X and RT/RA28XX drivers, firmware and everything. Hopefully we get the 5g working!
From there we can figure out what we do and do not need and tune/optimize,
