Wireless section missing on x5000r in 21.02

Hello again dear Openwrt users.
I have 2 x5000r routers.
The first I flashed I could access
The second one I flashed (just flashed it second time now) is missing the network - wireless section.
I see that lspci is not installed, so will try to install this and compare the working x5000r with this one.

Any other ideas how I should proceed with this issue?

Many thanks!
L.E.

looks like the non working router is disabling pcie0 slot, either because it is not recognizing something in there or because there isn't something there.
L.E.
Revert to totolink stock firmware, both wireless networks up and running.
I am stuck with no ideas.

It looks like somebody managed to overcome this hiccup, and instructed me to this information:

Unfortunately I have no idea what to do with that information yet.

is anybody here able to help me a little bit?

On your non-working router, MT7915 chip #2 is not even detected on the PCIe bus. This suggests a hardware failure. How hard is it to flash back to stock to test with stock firmware?

I am using it with stock firmware and wireless is working.
I tried both stable and snapshot openwrt images and none work.
In my previous post i linked a github post about this issue but i do not know how to proceed with that info yet.

What kernel is running? The new drivers are for 5.10, however my X5000R running OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r17696-a7f794cd2a is on kernel 5.4.150 and should not be affected by the new drivers.

root@OpenWrt:~# uname -a
Linux OpenWrt 5.4.150 #0 SMP Fri Oct 8 09:22:18 2021 mips GNU/Linux

Hi @freaksdotcom
Mine is running 5.4.143. This is on the stable version, not the snapshot.

The x5000r that has the issue is back on stock fw so i can use it, but i have tried the same openwrt firmware on it too.

Any ideas?

Are you using 21.02 or 21.02.1?

There is a problem with 21.02 with the wireless setup.

I don't know if it's fixed in 21.02.1, but it should be working in any snapshot after https://github.com/openwrt/luci/commit/4286c84825

Hm. The x5000r that is working is on 21.02.0
This is the version that can be downloaded from the x5000r product page.
Where is the 21.02.1 version?
L.e. got it by navigating to /21.02.1 in the download link
Ill try this too. BUT i did try the snapshot image and i had the same issue.
Closest thing that resrmbles my issue is

But i do not know how to proceed there.

I just flashed to 21.02.1 and it seems to break the wireless setup. https://github.com/openwrt/luci/issues/5468

The steps in that issue should work for the X5000R. The factory partition is at /dev/mtd2. You can verify with:

# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00030000 00010000 "u-boot"
mtd1: 00010000 00010000 "u-boot-env"
mtd2: 00010000 00010000 "factory"
mtd3: 00fb0000 00010000 "firmware"
mtd4: 00244ade 00010000 "kernel"
mtd5: 00d6b522 00010000 "rootfs"
mtd6: 009f0000 00010000 "rootfs_data"

So, in theory this should work:

dd if=/dev/mtd2ro bs=131072 skip=0 count=8 of=/tmp/factory-fixed && \
mtd write /tmp/factory-fixed /dev/mtd2

Trying it on my router produces the following output:

0+1 records in
0+1 records out
Could not open mtd device: /dev/mtd2
Can't open device for writing!

Trying mtd unlock /dev/mtd2 also fails:

Could not open mtd device: /dev/mtd2
Could not open mtd device: /dev/mtd2

Hi @freaksdotcom . Hauke says there that he modified the device tree to allow modifications on factory partition.

Now I am waiting to see how that can be done, as I do not know...

I think it requires a custom kernel. The device tree is part of the kernel image.

It turns out there's a kernel module you can install to make the mtd devices writeable.

I just did this and it didn't brick my router. YMMV

# opkg install kmod-mtd-rw
# insmod mtd-rw i_want_a_brick=1
# mtd unlock /dev/mtd2
# dd if=/dev/mtd2ro bs=131072 skip=0 count=8 of=/tmp/factory-fixed
# md5sum /dev/mtd2ro /tmp/factory-fixed # Verify these have the same md5

Verify that the checksums for both are the same before writing it back.

# mtd write /tmp/factory-fixed /dev/mtd2
# reboot

You should remove the mtd-rw module when you're done.

# opkg remove kmod-mtd-rw

Managed to do the same, but it had no effect on my router.
My issue is that the wireless card does not get detected at boot, as per the logs.
The issue regarding manual config for wireless in order to use 5ghz network i managed to overcome easily.
Looks lihe this tries to write also the mac addresses to mtd2, but again, out of my scope. https://github.com/dangowrt/linksys-e8450-openwrt-installer/commit/6674ead605dfbd10570c5b0333ab9eb6ca51c267

I have them both connected on my network and now they are both on opewrt, but I am missing wifi coverage in some areas of the home.

Are you running 21.02.1 or a snapshot?

Can you post the entire output of dmesg after a reboot for each router?

Have a look @ post number 2.
In the meantime i moved to 21.02.1 but the errors are the same.
About the dmesg, up until the section i posted everything was the same. If need be, i'll post it all on pastebin.

Can you try a recent snapshot? I've had some problems with LuCI 21.02.1

Did rewriting the factory partition get rid of the mt7915e: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -22 message at boot?

Are both phy being detected for the wireless device? This command should show both.

root@OpenWrt:/sys/devices# find /sys -name macaddress
/sys/devices/platform/1e140000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:02:00.0/ieee80211/phy0/macaddress
/sys/devices/platform/1e140000.pcie/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:02:00.0/ieee80211/phy1/macaddress

The device that's not being found on your second device is an mt7916, which is a "mt7915e_hif". I'm not exactly sure what that's for.

The full dmesg has more hardware info that may help.

I did try before a snapshot but the result was the same.
Now i am on 21.02.1 with modified mtd2 partition.
I still get the error -22.
the wired thing is I do not have any result while running find command. So no phy on the non working router.
On the working router I get both of them, of course.

Both radios are detected and working fine on

Hello @woffko
Did you have the issue i am facing before this?
I am asking because, as you can see, i have 2 totolink x5000r. One is working, one is not.
