Wireless clients unable to ping each other

I have 3 OpenWRT routers. 2 of which I have set up as dumb access points in a mesh (Mesh01, & Mesh02), with one connected to the 3rd OpenWRT router (WRT01, an x86 box with no WiFi) over Ethernet, for completeness for my modem is connected to WRT01 over Ethernet. I have 2 WiFi clients, a Linux laptop and an Android phone, that can't ping each other. I did pings from every device to every device, and the Linux to Android and Android to Linux pings are the only ones failing, both are connect to Mesh01. I verified that Isolate Clients is not enabled. Any idea on what else I can check?

I wish I had a more satisfying answer, I have NetBird set up on WRT01, to make sure it wasn't causing issues I disabled the NetBird interface. That didn't fix it but when I re-started the NetBird interface things started working. I can't explain why that worked.

Maybe their respective firewalls are blocking icmp packets? It's very common actually!
Try disabling the firewall in one of the devices and see if the ping connects.
You could do a speedtest between devices (using iperf3) and check if packets arrive at destination as well

I appreciate the suggestion but I can ping both devices from all 3 of the routers so I know they are responding to pings.

While it's not directly related to the issue you've got, you should upgrade your x86 router:

The current version is 24.10.

Meanwhile... your MX4300 is not running firmware from the official project:

I'd recommend installing official OpenWrt 24.10.1.

It appears you are using firmware that is not from the official OpenWrt project.

When using forks/offshoots/vendor-specific builds that are "based on OpenWrt", there may be many differences compared to the official versions (hosted by OpenWrt.org). Some of these customizations may fundamentally change the way that OpenWrt works. You might need help from people with specific/specialized knowledge about the firmware you are using, so it is possible that advice you get here may not be useful.

You may find that the best options are:

Install an official version of OpenWrt, if your device is supported (see https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org).
Ask for help from the maintainer(s) or user community of the specific firmware that you are using.
Provide the source code for the firmware so that users on this forum can understand how your firmware works (OpenWrt forum users are volunteers, so somebody might look at the code if they have time and are interested in your issue).

If you believe that this specific issue is common to generic/official OpenWrt and/or the maintainers of your build have indicated as such, please feel free to clarify.
