We're getting our FTTH connection soon, and I wanted to reconfigure our network. I've purchased 3 Zyxel WSM20 devices and already flashed them with openWRT. I plan to use them as dumb APs. The router will be a GL.inet Flint 2, once it's eventually shipped.
Now, I'm wondering how to best connect AP3 to the router and AP1 to AP3. In my case, perhaps using AP3 and AP2 as a repeater (WDS, right?) would be the most suitable solution. What do you think?
Or do I have to setup a connection over 802.11s?
Do I need that Batman stuff?
I'm relativity new to openWRT so I'm not sure.
WDS should be fine, none of the APs are likely to move around much/ regularly - and considering the locations, AP3 won't profit from AP2 and vice versa either. The only thing I would do, is locking the WDS-STA uplink to the preferred MAC address (so to the 5 GHz MAC address of AP1 on AP2 WDS-STA uplink - and the router's (xor AP1's, depending on which signal comes in stronger) 5 GHz MAC (maybe 2.4 GHz, if the distance requires it) on AP3.
