Hello there, I've been playing with wrt1900ACS v1 lately, initially i've installed 23.05.4 but i wasn't satisfied with wifi performance - couldn't get over 150 Mbps on 5Ghz.
Yesterday I've installed earlier version and I'm getting up to 650 Mbps - it isn't what is specified (1300) but it is much better.
I really don't expect anyone to give it much thought, just sharing obvious information. If anyone encountered similar issue and resolved successfully I'd appreciate some guidelines, after all i'd like to use newer sw.
I get my way around OS but i'm no advanced user.
This is probably related to the configuration, although it is possible that there are some regressions or other factors.
We'd need to see the configurations you were using for both versions to understand what might be different. More on that in a moment.
But, two other things:
1300Mbps is a marketing number -- often it is the combination of 2.4G and 5G maximum connection rates. 802.11ac doesn't aggregate the two bands, so you'll never see that anyway -- it's just how things are marketed. But beyond that, even if you take the 5GHz number (from the marketing mateirals) alone, you'll only reach around half or up to maybe 2/3's the number because of how wifi works (in terms of the overhead and such).
On this point... it's great that you did a test to evaluate the performance of your device with different versions, but 19.07 has been EOL and unsupported for many years. It has many known security vulnerabilities and shouldn't be used. So please only use it insofar as it can be a performance benchmark and a reference for the config that gets you to those speeds. You should be using the latest (23.05.5) so that you're using a supported and safe version.
Thank you for a reply, what config would you like to see?
cat /etc/config/wireless

Just to be clear this is 19.* config which is performing fine, I havent tweaked anything too specific no 23 eather, just turned ap on and set some encryption...
Please connect to your OpenWrt device using ssh and copy the output of the following commands and post it here using the "Preformatted text </>

Remember to redact passwords, MAC addresses and any public IP addresses you may have:
ubus call system board
cat /etc/config/network
cat /etc/config/wireless
cat /etc/config/dhcp
cat /etc/config/firewall
Ok... let's see the config you were using for 23.05.
Non of the updated mwlwifi bits are in 23.x, probably worth trying a master snapshot on the other partition to see if anything is addressed. And if you have the AMSDU workaround it can be removed with the latest mwlwifi on master.
On top of that, the boasted 1300 MBit/s only apply if all four rx/tx chains are in use, but most clients only have 2x2 radios, which drops the link rate to 866 MHz (and again, remember that you'll only get around half of that in practice).
For 802.11ac, speeds ranging from ~250-400 MBit/s are within expectations for HE80/ 2x2 (within the same room), anything above that either requires more chains or wider channels and a lot of luck.
--
another typical issue is (HE)160 MHz wide channels, which are rarely successful in the congested real world with its DFS requirements, in practice your limits tend to be HE80 - which halves the effective throughput yet again.
3x3, not 4x4. Otherwise it would be 1733.3 Mbps.
Correct, but pretty much the same difference (it just lowers the ceiling).

Seems 23.05.5 really much better than 23.05.4
I suspect main cause is that wiki database is updated manually and many pages are at 23.05.0 or 23.05.4
Those are good for initial install but you have to update to latest stable.
Quick update on my case.
I've tried master snapshot and i've gotten much better results, I'm getting 600 mbps sitting on the router.
Weird thing going on is bitrate negotiation, sometimes my phone connects down to 144 Mbps (1m from router and being only device connected as this is being tested.)
Would you consider this normal thing?
you need band steering to return to upper band.
Thanks man, looks like it works
