I created a pastebin posts due to the kernel log being too long. I have not rebooted, only restarted the radio when notified it was down using the Luci GUI.

Not to belittle your log results...

...but can you better describe what you call a crash?

  • Do you live in a congested or rural area?
  • What channel are you on (1, 6 or 11)?
  • Have you tried switching channels?
  • Are you forcing 40 MHz bandwidth?
  • Can you provide the model of your router?
  • WOW...how many SSIDs are you running on that card?!?!? I see 4!

Again to be clear...unless my math is off, running 4 SSIDs only give you ~12.5% performance compared to running 1 SSID (which gives you a theoretical ~100%).

Crash as in all endpoints are no longer able to connect.

The board is an RBM33G card is R11e-2HPnD.

4 SSIDs

Not forcing 40 MHz, its in auto.

Appreciate your help @lleachii this is in production environment. I've squashed the usage for WiFI by applying SQM on specific wlan0-X interfaces. Should I add another card? It supports 2.

Also, I've removed the old netdata package build, according to the kernel log link I see the page fault which it caused.

  • Can you use some WiFi Analyzer app to see if you're on the clearest channel?
  • This device only does 54 Mbps Wifi...at 4 SSIDs... == 6.75 Mpbs...unless my math is off... an additional card may be better - is this a point-to-point WiFi with little interference carrying VLANs or something?

?

I'll try another card and divy up the SSIDs and VLANs tonight.

The page fault I'm speaking of is in the kernel log I posted via a link to pastebin, its near the bottom

https://pastebin.com/Ud6cJBHq

This is as complex as what you proposed...and I've actually never provided advice in the community on it...but if you control both radios (and not worried therefore abut the security while on RF as a backhaul link), you can route into one SSID/OpenWrt Interface and divvy up the VLANs by IP on either side...I think static routing can do that easily.

You then receive the full bandwidth of the link.

If you use another card, you have to be using directional/oppositely-polarized antennas, or other channels.

I don't think this is a backhaul scenario unless I'm not understanding you properly, its an AP and routing to a Fiber uplink 25mbs symetrical. Looks like there are 5 SSIDs.. on for maintenance, all on same radio. Wasn't aware that SSIDs effected bandwidth allocation, however, when I applied SQM it seemed to clear up some issues for awhile. However, they persist it looks like. No one is ever on the maintenance SSID.

This may be helpful:

OK...then I assume you're actually in a scenario servicing 5+ different VLANs on your device...

It wouldn't matter, I'd try see if there's a clearer channel, then next - perhaps another card, if you have one available (on another non-overlapping channel). Perhaps tweaking distance optimization may help (this would lower the time your radio waits for any given SSID for a client on-air). Other settings are quite complex; and I think you should work on WiFi bandwidth, especially with 4 SSIDs on your device.

SQM not helpful. I just think you're pushing the limits of a 54 Mbps card.

The Distance Optimization is in the unit of meters >= 100.

Is this queue not related to the issue at hand?

[424279.099063] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (mtk_soc_eth): transmit queue 0 timed out

(Moved to the For Developers section.)

Correction on channel, I've got all SSIDs set to channel 3 because it was the least congested. Distance optimization is set to 50 meters. I'm using to radio to scan and double check it congestion as I type this.

Try 100 meters...in testing I've found under 100 to have nil or odd effect.

I moved it to the For Developers section because of the crash data.

Thanks for the heads up on that... the scan, wow, 89 seen.

I'm not familiar with the previous problem you had - to understand why that pleased you.

Channel 4 looks to not being used by others in the area:

root@ap001:~# iwinfo wlan0 scan | grep Channel | cut -d: -f3 | sort -n | uniq
1
2
3
5
6
7
8
9
10
11

Channel 4 overlaps with bandwiths covered in 1 and 6.

This is why I specified:

See image "Graphical representation of 2.4 GHz band channels overlaps with 20 MHz transmitters.":

While overlapping frequencies can be configured at a location will usually work, it can cause interference resulting in slowdowns, sometimes severe, particularly in heavy use.

you can use a wifi anaylyser on your phone to help you choose a channel, generally choose 1,6,11
You can use wifi analyser app like Netgear wifi Analytics to get a list of recommended channels. Use the app while your wifi is OFF and stand nearby.
