WiFi Extender does not play well with OpenWrt Router

Hi,

So, with my TP Link Archer C20 v4 OpenWRT Router, I attempted to extend the WiFi range with my RE205 AC750 range extender.

Initially, it works fine; however, in longer sessions of the extender being connected, the connection becomes intermittent with often the extender losing access to the internet altogether which in turn renders my devices internet-less.

Any suggestions as to how to diagnose this problem?

Step #1: Look at the logs.

Specifically what command should I use in SSH? I know it'll have something to do with the WiFi.

fwiw, did you have same extender problem when using TPlink stock firmware on C20?

The RE205 is a dual band extender. Does it connect to main router using both 2.4 and 5 ghz bands, or just uses a single band?

Is RE205 perhaps too far from main router? (eg. How many walls between router and RE205 ?)

From what I remember, I didn't have this problem when I ran stock firmware.

Yes, it is a dual band extender connecting both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

Can't be. There's only one wall separating between the Router and the said RE205.

As suggested by @tmomas, check the logs for any clues.
eg.
LuCI > Status > System Log

Does the extender lose its link to the C20 on both 2.4 and 5 GHz at same time?

I don't know, but does it seem like there is anything wrong based on the code?

Yes, it loses its connection at the same time.

Apparently, I lost WiFi for a temporary bit with the extender. Would there be any signs here?

i really do not understand if all device are on openwrt or just one.
anyway set the encription on openwrt device to wpa/wpa2 mixed mode

What is device 1c:42:7d:16:2b:31 ?
What encryption and cipher method are you using for wireless security on the C20 ?
Does it match the extender settings? (eg. WPA2-PSK, CCMP-AES)

I don't actually know. With regards to that, I've changed the password to block access on that device.

I cannot actually configure the Cipher (TKIP or AES) on the Extender, only the Encryption.

Here's the log for when the WiFi from the extender temporarily disconnected. Any advice?

you need play with openwrt router, i told you to try wpa/wpa2 mixed mode

Are these 3 different devices?
Can you match the mac addresses to devices and the extender?

Did you try @anon4457646 suggestion?

This is the MAC Address of the Extender: B0:BE:76:5C:47:0D.

6C:7C is my iPad, whilst EC:7C is my iPhone.

I already did, and it's working so far though the speeds are significantly slower and there's more latency. I guess that's to be expected given the extender.

Are you sure you have the correct MAC address for the extender because it is not visible in any of the uploaded logs?

Range extender/repeaters will generally always halve your available speed if using same frequency band. eg. if your iphone connects to extender on 2.4 ghz and extender links to router on 2.4 ghz, you will only get half the speed compared to iphone connecting directly to router's wifi on 2.4 ghz.

I'm sure. I have not been experiencing any errors with my range extender so far. I think it was because of an incompatible cipher. The RE205 does not support AES cipher I think, so I adjusted the router to use both TKIP and AES plus the encryption to WPA/WPA2 Mixed. So far, there's been no errors connection wise.
