Why was OpenWrt on my list of devices on my internet?

I’ve recently had neighbors? using my internet and I paused and deleted their devices on spectrum. One of the devices is openwrt. I have it paused. Is this something that is helping me? Spectrum told me it was a tv device and she paused and deleted it so I don’t know if this is a second Occurrence. The IP address is different than what my phone tells me. Is this something you think I should have paused or running? Spectrum is not very helpful. Thanks.

Please connect to your OpenWrt device using ssh and copy the output of the following commands and post it here using the "Preformatted text </> " button:
grafik
Remember to redact passwords, MAC addresses and any public IP addresses you may have:

ubus call system board
cat /etc/config/network
cat /etc/config/wireless
cat /etc/config/dhcp
cat /etc/config/firewall

I think the user saw the hostname OpenWrt appear on a non-OpenWrt device (apparently managed by their ISP).

FYI some embeded device developers use OpenWrt as the basis of their operating system. I've actually seen a TV Set Top box manufactured by a major cable equipment supplier (@ri$$) - show as OpenWrt on my network as it's hostname.

It's not uncommon.

So is it another person trying to use my internet if all my devices work?

This doesn’t answer. ? Any ideas?

???

I though you said it was a guest using their devices?

If your devices work...then sure.

Does the term "neighbors" actually mean "unauthorized network users"?

We can't guess.

If you dont have a device running OpenWrt, perhaps you should ask Spectrum or a network security forum instead. The user's post was to verify the OpenWrt equipment, software and configuration you're running. Since you aren't, this may be the improper forum to inquire.

Your neighbors have used your internet connection. Your neighbors own a device that identifies as "OpenWrt". A device named "OpenWrt" appeared on your router. Nothing to see here.

Change your wifi password and move on. Or ask your neighbors about their devices. End of the story
