Which software to use for linksys ea8300 (not compatible with >23)

Hey guys,

I've got a https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/ea8300 with an old OpenWRT firmware installed. On the wiki for the router it says "... exclusively the 22.03.5 (or 22.03.6) OpenWRT version factory.bin image. Using a more recent build (ie. 23.05.x or later)"..."
So, since 23.3.6 is out, is it safe to use this? I don't know if there are any breaking changes for this router, and don't know how to figure this out.

Have a great day

the boot loader modification isn't really related to the version, but the size of the kernel.

you need to modify the param, once, if you want to upgrade to any recent release: https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/ea8300#upgrading_openwrt_from_22035_into_23xx_or_snapshot_images.

thank you, so I can install 23.3.6 and then start the two step update process. Thank you!

Also, I just wanted to change this in the wiki, but it seems you already did that.

typo error.

The bootloader change is needed only to install any 23.05 or 24.10 versions. There is no need for any 22.03 versions.

I'd def do the param change 1st, it makes the router immune to soft bricking, and doesn't affect the version you're currently running.

FYI 22.03 isn't supported any more.
