Which affordable repeater runs on OSS?

Hey,

I've flashed openWRT onto my Flink 2.
I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Now, though, I'd like to buy a repeater to easily extend my network's range (just a few meters).
I want to do this in a way that the Wi-Fi device doesn't notice the switch in routers.
From what I’ve found online so far, the best way to do this is to use another openWRT router.
Are there no repeaters available for openWRT?

Which device would you recommend for my setup? :slight_smile:
If there's a better way to do this, I'd appreciate any tips. :slight_smile:

technically, all openwrt devices with wifi can do this.

Based on the new information, I think it would be best (also in terms of updates) if I just bought a router and used it as a repeater after all?

The GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) should be very well suited for that, right? (currently €60)

It will probably continue to receive updates for longer since it’s more widely used.

it's overpriced, any openwrt capable AX3000 device will be able to perform this task.

updates aren't based on popularity, but Linux hw support and RAM and/or flash space.

Are there even any cheaper routers with openWRT support that meet all these requirements?

With most manufacturers, such as TP-Link, there's the problem that only certain models work, and I don't want to buy a used one.

The Xiaomi Router AX3000T looks pretty good from a technical standpoint, too, and is available starting at €46.

Maybe this one would even be better because it probably has better antennas?

I think the driver for its MediaTek Filogic 820 is open source?

256 MB of storage and 512 MB of RAM should probably be enough for updates for a long time, right?

It’s the same hardware as the OpenWrt One, except it has 512 MB of RAM instead of 1 GB.

Or am I missing something?

I fail to see the relevance, considering all devices in https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/mediatek/filogic/ use it (or a better version of it).

A 64 MB flash device will last you longer than you'll want to keep the GL (as long as you only use it as a wifi repeater).

Downside is, it got a fan, even though I doubt is spins up very often in your (use) case.

Not missing, overspending.

WX5600 is 50€ + s&h, but it's also twice as fast.
