i always wondered ... is there a JIRA like system that openwrt has for a backlog ? instead of the amount of pulls one sees and never looked at unless someone shouts or uses IRC wouldn't make sense to have a system to understand how much work is ahead ? and then maybe someone can pick this work or start it with coaching of senior devs ... just a thought
Ever heard of that site called git hub?
yeah ...there are 633 pull requests open at the moment is there any hope of having them all approved or closed ? besides this is not what I meant github is showing work that people put already effort what about future work ... roadmap work
An official roadmap for OpenWrt 25.x/26.x does not exist but these features are likely (hopefully) incorporated:
- LTS kernel 6.12 https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/issues/16569
- Wi-Fi 7 improvements
- switch from opkg to Alpine Package Keeper (APK)
https://github.com/openwrt/packages/issues/23706
The future is now: opkg vs apk
regarding the opened pull requests: it depends. some of them will be closed as they are old and no one bothered to update them. but most of the prs will be merged, at least from my experience. most of the time devs do bulk reviews but this depends on their time, so sometimes youll wait several days/weeks for a review. if you want something to be looked at quickly, send it to the mailing-list.
Also keep an eye on https://openwrt.org/meetings/start for discussions about future enhancements
It can sometimes be frustrating, I also have made a couple of PR's which in the end were merged, but it can take a while.
I have one open from December for adding sport (source port) to netifd but I know that Felix is a busy person and he will look at it if he can spare the time, so as always patience is a virtue
