What happens at night? (Archer C7 v5 wi-fi connected but no internet in the morning)

Hey,

I have a very strange between my OnePlus 6 (Android 11) and Archer C7 v5 running (OpenWrt 21.02.2 or 22 rcX (don't remember which version I tested) and 21.01 running non-ct drivers).
Every morning I wake up to see my phone connected to WiFi but showing "No Internet" next to SSID. Even stranger is that if I switch to a different router or turn wifi on or off it still shows "No Internet" sometimes even 4G shows that status. It gets fixed only by me restarting the phone.
This sounds more like phone problem not router one, however this does not happen if I am running stock firmware on my router.

So, what happens at night to cause a device to not only lose internet connection without losing wifi connetion?

Sounds like a DNS issue. Check your logs for pointers.

You were right!
I looked at the logs and found a bunch of logs indicating turning on and on and then DNS rebind attack protection triggering.

Tue Aug 23 04:46:45 2022 daemon.warn dnsmasq[2802]: possible DNS-rebind attack detected: apd-pcdnwxlogin.teg.tencent-cloud.net
Tue Aug 23 04:46:46 2022 daemon.notice hostapd: wlan1: STA-OPMODE-SMPS-MODE-CHANGED PHONES MAC static
Tue Aug 23 04:46:46 2022 daemon.notice hostapd: wlan1: STA-OPMODE-SMPS-MODE-CHANGED PHONES MAC off

For now I will just try to disable the protection and investigate does my phone have a security issue or just some misconfiguration.

Do not disable rebind protection inless you know if implications. It's use by some malicious sites as an attack vector

Please see my post here:

Thanks for bringing my attention to it! I will run a test too
