What does this signal strength meter show?

I recently installed OpenWrt 19.07.10 on a TP-LINK Archer C5 V2 and it works very well. Thank you everyone who has done such a good job with this!

However, on the Wireless Overview, I wonder what this signal strength meter shows, which I have marked with yellow in the screenshot below?

You should upgrade to at least version 23.05.5, which works very well based on my personal experience.

This is the average signal strength in dBm, calculated by dumping all quality values for all stations connected to the AP.

Since these values change very quickly, the final result is not always accurate enough, as you can see in your screenshot.

Thank you for the reply! The reason why I selected version 19.07.10 was that it was listed as "Supported Current Rel" on https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer-c5-c7-wdr7500. There I found a link to openwrt-19.07.10-bcm53xx-tplink-archer-c5-v2-squashfs.bin, which I used. But perhaps that means also later versions can be used? It would be especially interesting if also more modern WiFi was supported.

It was very helpful that you explained that this signal meter shows average signal strength. There were more stations connected at the time (not shown on the screenshot, because they were further down in the list), which could explain the average shown.

wifi status doesn't improve with newer openwrt releases.

Sorry, I misread the router model.
Please ignore my comment about the version.
