What are the hardware requirements of WiFi 6 (802.11ax)?

I am very interested in using openwrt on a WiFi 6 router - but wondered if this new protocol requires new hardware or software?

For example if I bought this router: https://www.amazon.co.uk/GL-iNet-GL-AR300M-Ext-Converter-Pre-installed-Performance/dp/B01K6MHRJI/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=small+router+openwrt&qid=1607421927&sr=8-13 and WiFi 6 support came to openwrt would I be able to use WiFi 6 on it or are there hardware requirements for 802.11ax? Thanks

Surely 802.11ax need to be supported by the hardware for the software to make use of it. The router you linked surely doesn't suport ax as it even doesn't support ac
