I'm trying to restore my WAX206 stock firmware as I need to sell it to friends and because there is no stable version of openwrt for it I wanted to be sure to have the stablest build possible which is probably the stock one.
I've tried to hard reset (15 seconds pressing reset button with clip while router turned on) and also nmrpflash with the command below but keeps looping after Received CONF_REQ while waiting for TFTP_UL_REQ!:
sudo nmrpflash -i en7 -f /Users/usr/Downloads/WAX206_Firmware_V1.0.3.0.zip
Waiting for Ethernet connection (Ctrl-C to skip).

Should I keep it running until it will eventually finish or there is something else I need to do?
any suggestion on how to proceed? When I hard reset the router I get the openwrt empty firmware where there is no root psw installed and I can ssh inside and without Luci installed.
Can't help you with the revert to stock but just use a snapshot. They are plenty stable on multiple devices and have been for years with very few exceptions.
I think @maonat is over-indexing on the concept of "stable" and assuming that a nightly snapshot is inherently unstable. Whether and rc of a stable release or a snapshot, just try one and see how you like it. I am betting OpenWrt is superior to the vendor stock firmware in the stability department whether rc or snapshot
Even though OpenWRT could be much "stabler" than a stock fw, I would like to reinstall the original software on it to give it to the family friends so I don't get called saying "the software you installed is not making my internet work".
If it's stock, it's going to be on their heads and they will have to talk to the ISP.
Not every ISP provide you with a router, they can give you FTTH and just a modem with an RJ45 exit to connect to your personal router.
BTW, I'm on macos and checked on firewall and seen that it's disabled.
Does the nmrpflash really want the .zip archive, instead of the actual firmware file inside the zip ???
After checking twice on gh repo...
Download the correct firmware image for your device. When downloading from the Netgear site, the firmware is usually contained in a .zip file - extract this first. The actual firmware file will have an extension such as .chk , .bin , .trx or .img .
