serial connection to soldered gnd, tx, rx does not work? I believe I am missing some point you are making, at least I suspect I am. I do not have the device, I just saw these have a good chipset (I think right?) but low flash and memory. Eventually these will drop in price - I got a GL-MT6000 cheaper here in the US - so too expensive to mess with. Otherwise I would solder the serial leads and give it a shot.

My first posts in the thread describe my attempts to use the serial console. TLDR: It does work, but it seems locked down. Also, there’s no need to solder anything. Just clip on or otherwise attach leads or pins to the board.

thanks, I obviously missed it was locked down - I suspected I missed something you were saying.

To be clear. Since I am a newbie at all this, I can't be certain that
it's totally locked down. I reported earlier in the thread what I
attempted, and that all those techniques failed.

OT here, if you're bored, get an Arris W6 kit to fiddle with, they're $35/pair.
