Watchdog: Give back control to procd

I wrote a daemon called naywatch.
I take over control of the watchdog here:

openwrt/routing/blob/master/naywatch/files/naywatch.sh#L50-L54

    
      
          activate_watchdog() {
              # disable openwrt instrumentation:
              ubus call system watchdog '{"magicclose":true,"stop":true,"timeout":'${WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT}'}' > /dev/null
              exec 3>/dev/watchdog
          }

After stopping I try to give procd back the control, however it seems not work. I have to multiple times call the stop command of the naywatch script, that procd takes over control again. Any guess what I can do to cleanly stop this daemon?
