Want to use a Laptop as Openwrt

Hi, is thare any way to use a laptop to run openwrt and then. use ppoe laptop>usb>rj45>dumb AP. I am sensing some issue with driver on openwrt to usb rj45. Is thare any solution or someone tried this?

Laptop uses multiple drivers and we're no mind readers.

Is thare laptop usb work on openwrt.

There are many chipsets for Ethernet (and wifi), and there are drivers for a good portion of those.

You need to identify the chipsets relevant to your use (internal as well as any USB dongles) so that you can install the correct driver packages.

Still fighting the same battle, but run a Linux Mint live USB to make wireless up and running and grab chipset, drivers and other useful identification info

No you do not.

First, you don’t want to use USB-to-Ethernet adapters, ever. They tend to have high latency and questionable stability (in some cases, leading to outright lock-ups).

Second, if you want to use wireless router functionality, you need a Wi-Fi card capable of working in access point (AP) mode. Most laptops have Wi-Fi cards made by Intel, which are specifically designed to work in station (STA) mode only. Even if you have an AP mode capable card (Qualcomm Atheros or MediaTek), chances are, it’s a reduced-capacity card, intended to provide hotspot functionality to a few devices and combining Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionalities.

Third, it’s a single Wi-Fi card, so you can provide single-band Wi-Fi service. Most routers have at least two, so they can provide dual-band Wi-Fi service.

To summarize, do yourself a favor and get a relevant device. The world is awash in slightly older networking gear well suited to running OpenWrt…

To clarify, we need to know what kind of USB adapter you are using so we can suggest the correct driver. Can you send the output of lsusb with the adapter plugged in?
