WAN Port doesn't work after installing OpenWRT 24.10 on Unsupported router (Full explanation inside)

Hello everyone, I am still beginner at networking and sorry for my english.

Please read the full explanation below.

I own Asus RT-AC1200HP (Japanese Market) and it has not had a firmware update from the manufacturer for a long time.
I checked OpenWrt Table of Hardware and this RT-AC1200HP is currently an unsupported model.
By the way, the RT-AC1200HP is a model for Japan, and there is also an overseas model called RT-AC1200, but this is completely different from the contents.

The specifications of the RT-AC1200HP > Spec

The SoC of the RT-AC1200HP is the Mediatek 7620A.
MT7620A: Mediatek7620A Spec

MT7620a is used in several models of ASUS routers.
(the closest is the RT-AC54U up to the FCC ID. The chips for the 5G radio are also matched.)

Find out about this SoC in the official documentation OpenWrt Doc
Technical Mediatek (including the acquired Ralink) target name is classified as "ramips" mt7620A is included in the mt7620 of "subtarget" target is ramips, subtarget is mt7620.

Based on that information the closest for RT-AC1200HP is the RT-AC54U up to the FCC ID. The chips for the 5G radio are also matched.

Flashing the OpenWrt image can be done in the same way
as the RT-AC54U: How to install OpenWrt RT-AC54U.

Finally I installed OpenWrt 24.10 successfully on unsupported router (Asus RT-AC1200HP Japanese Market).
However I have one problem that I cannot solve.
WAN port does not work.
And I found out it is automatically put LAN 1 as a WAN port.
LAN 2, 3 and 4 as a LAN Port.

I checked the spec of RT-AC54U it has 1 Fast Ethernet WAN Port and 4 Fast Ethernet LAN Ports.
and RT-AC1200HP has 1 Gigabit WAN Port and 4 Fast Ethernet Lan Ports.

I think because of the different WAN spec between RT-AC54U and RT-AC1200HP, it causes the WAN port on RT-AC1200HP does not work after installing OpenWrt 24.10 and it is automatically put the LAN 1 as a WAN Port.

Due to that my connection speed is lower because of using Fast Ethernet instead of Gigabit WAN.

Can anyone please help this issue or please release and support OpenWRT Firmware for Asus RT-AC1200HP.

Thank you so much.

The MT7620 has FE built in. A GE port requires another chip between the 7620 and the WAN socket. Find out the type of chip (PHY) they used and build in the proper driver for it.

There is not going to be much developer interest in that model since it is low performance by today's standards and only sold in one country.

Hello, thank you for your reply.
How can I know the chip between the 7620 and the Gigabit WAN socket.
Should I dissemble the router? sorry for asking because I am still newbie

Yes, or do other research to determine the exact specifications of the internal components. The guide linked in the first reply will help you with the process.
