Wan eth interface goes up and down periodically

Hi,
since tow months I have a FTTH connection and I use an OpenWRT one. And since then I have a nasty problem.
The wan eth0 interface goes periodically up and down, restarts and reconnects to the ISP and gets a new address. It does this infinitely every 5-10s. Until either the ISP kicks it out or the system itself stops.

I tried switching off EEE, sometimes it works mostly not. Found something regarding a race condition tried the solution, did not work in my case.
I started fumbling around with the parameters of the interface, that sometimes kicks it out of this loop and then the internet connection works quite well. Until the system restarts. Then again infinite loop.

Firmware is this: OpenWrt 25.12.3 r32912-6639b15f62 / LuCI openwrt-25.12 branch 26.129.70992~61fbfe6
But i tried this with several older versions over the last few weeks.

I am a bit out of ideas now and would need some help. Thanks a lot!

Typical log looks like this:

Hey, welcome!

the thing I would focus on is:

mtk_soc_eth 15100000.ethernet eth0: Link is Down

Did you read this: https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/beryl-ax-mt3000-eth0-constant-disconnects/53337

Or this: https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/gl-mt3000-wan-interface-eth0-going-up-and-down/30108

Did you try to switch the cable between you ISP router and openwrt-router?

PS: and you should void your personal info in logfiles like mac adresses, ipv6 adresses and usernames in future.

Really?

I'd focus on this, as it explains why:

:+1:

Hey, thanks!

I tried several cables. So far that didn't help.

But i now tried to switch from eth0 to eth1 as in your first link and that seemed to bring at least stable connection. But slower than my connection should be. (300mbps) Edit: forget the speed that was the wifi in the kitchen.

I already ordered new cables so will have a look on friday if that helps.
Nasty error if it's the cable then the ISPs cable too is rubbish.

I had a similar problem with an MT7621 based ER605. Periodically eth0 would lose connection for 3 or 4 seconds but nowhere near as frequently as yours, mine was usually a day or two. Changing cables etc made no difference. In the end I prevented it taking down the PPPoE connection by setting 'force link' in the advanced settings of the pppoe wan interface and adjusted the LCP failure settings so that any extended link failure would still take the PPPoE connection down.

I've since moved away from the ER605 and no longer see any failures, which would seem to eliminate any possible fault in the cable or ONT

Today I had the Chance to check if it is a cable issue.
I bought a Cat8.1 cable because i already checked several 5e and 6 which I had in my spare parts boxes.

This also does not solve the issue itself. Anyway switching from the eth0 2.5 to the eth1 1gbit connection did solve all my problems including steam gaming connection errors. And the ISP would deliver 1gbit at max. For me the problem is solved now.

Perhaps for someone who likes to look deeper into where this can come from:

  • Router: OpenWrt One with firmware OpenWrt 25.12.3 r32912-6639b15f62 / LuCI openwrt-25.12 branch 26.129.70992~61fbfe6 (HW 24.03)
