Is it possible to connect the above mentioned travel router to the Fritzbox via VPN?

Yes, assuming that the Fritz!Box supports WireGuard or OpenVPN as a server and you're running either GL.iNet v3 firmware or OpenWrt with the proper VPN peer/client package installed.

AVM's proprietary Fritz!OS firmware only supports IPsec/ IKEv1, it should be possible to establish a connection from OpenWrt (or both directions, actually) via strongswan.
