Vlan switch recommendation request

i have a edgerouter x that i have flashed to openwrt and im using it as a managed switch to operate 4 vlans, i am looking for a spare for test lab environment

are there any off the shelf products that do vlans really well? even if i cant flash openwrt on them?

im looking at some by netgear, tp-link, zyxel, they all seem to have the same functions, anything to look for specifically?

Basically any managed switch is capable of this. Avoid the lowest end manaaged switches from TP-Link and Netgear -- they both have some serious flaws in the firmware and VLAN implementations that can cause headaches and other issues (they function, but they have quirks).

I've been told that Zyxel's switches are pretty good. TP-Link's small business line and higher is good, as are Netgear. Probably the same story for Linksys.

Almost all managed switches on the commercial market will operate to spec against the 802.1q standard. Depending on the vendor/firmware, there could be some nuances to the terminology and methods for setting the VLAN configs, but once you understand how they operate, you can navigate them without issue.

If you want to run OpenWrt on a managed switch, see this:

very cool! thank you for the information
