VLAN filter support on bridge only for DSA enabled devices?

I'm trying to use "VLAN filtering on a bridge" on a non DSA-device (ipq40xx-based)
Am I right, that this does/can not work ?

VLAN filtering should work on any Linux bridge, without DSA it will just happen in software instead of being programmed into / offloaded onto the switch hardware.
