Using a Comfast CF-926AC V2 WiFi adapter with OpenWrt

I've been on a mission to build a Pi based OpenWrt router (because it's fun and I had one lying around...) and needed a USB WiFi adapter to act as an access point.

The journey started with a cheap no name brand Atheros AR9271 based USB WiFi card from Amazon which performed as well as you'd expect (terribly) and I could barely get 50mbps down and 25mbps upload. After much research, I grabbed a Comfast CF-926AC V2 adapter from Aliexpress because it's based on the MediaTek MT7612U chipset which is one of the few USB chipsets that is supported in OpenWrt.

Check out my write up of the process in my blog post.
