USB drive claims "read-only file system" via SSH/LUCI

I would use f2fs for applications with frequent writing. But realize that a USB key isn't intended to be used like a SSD and it will wear out much faster than a real SSD.

SanDisk drives will lock down to read only when the controller chip in the drive detects that the flash is worn out.

Thanks for the reply. As stated earlier in the thread, once the file system is repaired the drives function as intended. I'm aware that USB can wear out, but that's not the case here, and I'm also using a new drive.

I'll give f2fs a shot and see what happens.
