Upgrading supported v24 to "unsupported" v25

Hello,

I am new to OpenWRT. I am planning on getting a new router to flash OpenWRT on, and I see on the table of hardware that most devices appear to be supported only on version 24. Is it possible to install v24 and then upgrade into v25, or am I supposed to wait until the device officially supports v25? If so, what is the usual life cycle of these releases? Do devices catch up after a while, or is it better if I get a router that supports v25 from the start?

Thanks for your time.

use https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/ to find out what's supported by 25.12.

most devices should be.

The wiki entries are hand-curated, they will always lag behind the actual state of things. If there is a 25.12.0 firmware image for your devices, it's expected to work.
