Upgrading OpenWrt from v19.07.4 to Latest Stable Version on Archer C7

Hi all,

I've read this doc page about attended sysupgrades and although it all sounds very promising, it doesn't seem as though luci-app-attendedsysupgrade or auc are able to handle the huge leap from v19.07.4 to the latest stable release of OpenWrt.

Installing the former package and attempting to search for an applicable sysupgrade on my TP-Link Archer C7 results in the same error messages mentioned in this thread, which were supposedly "solved" by installing the ca-certificates package, but that does bupkiss for me.

Like most people that post about their problems on internet forums, the OP of that thread seems to have either forgotten about the issue, or solved it and ran like the wind, not caring about helping anyone else by posting about their final situation.

So how can I upgrade this ancient firmware on my Archer C7? Should I forget about using any provided tools to make the process easier, and just build a custom image myself? MTIA for any helpful advice

I wouldn't do this, there are changes in openwrt requiring a reset.

you will have to start over, config wise.

I figured that would probably be the case, and that's fine, as I have a pretty close-to-default config atm anyway. But how would you recommend that I proceed? A manual sysupgrade to the last point release of v19, then the last point release of v20, and so on? Or can I go straight to v20?

if you want to be safe, simply sysupgrade 19->21->22->23, checking the reset settings checkbox in the process.
