Hi,
I am running OpenWRT 22.03.2 on my MR3800 and have the original firmware still on partition 01.
Now I want to upgrade to 23.05.2 and following the advice on
I should upgrade using the factory image and from the Linksys firmware (1st bullet point).
OK so far. (Changing bootloader variable was done a year ago.)
But what does this means: DO NOT upgrade from 22.03 to 23.05/main snapshot while keeping settings: config syntax isn't the same (due to DSA) and it will lead to a soft-brick.
Can I backup my settings using LUCI Flash operation > Generate Archive > Backup
and then
Restore > Restore backup > Upload archive
or would this lead to the soft-brick?
Is there another way to restore settings or do I have to start over conifguring the router?
This would also lead to a soft brick so don't do it.
There's no automatic process of migrating swconfig to DSA, so you need to re-configure the device after upgrading to 23.05. You can take a backup of the current configuration and use that as a reference, but don't restore it.
Hi.
I'm the editor of the wiki page.
DO NOT keep settings while upgrading. Many settings have changed when the device is running 23.05. So you must start with a clean device and reconfigure from scratch. That being said, perform a backup of settings before upgrading. Use the files to manually copy/paste several settings when reconfiguring.
EDIT : this behavior is not specific to the MR8300. It is the case of the whole target (ipq40xx) and any others when switching from swconfig to DSA.
